Low Carb is now a reality. No not low carbohydrate but LOW CARBON. The ‘buzz-craze’ back in  the 70’s and 80’s was recycle and gradually people began to wake up to the fact that by recycling we could illuminate the need to reproduce thousands of tones of raw materials needed in the manufacturing process. Can the same happen with our LCF?

Recognising an LCF or Low Carbon Footprint is the new rage. Some corporates however have cottoned on to the fact that there is good PR mileage to be made from getting involved and others are genuine in their concerns that they are unnecessarily contributing to the ‘carbon weight’ of the planet.

We think it’s all about changing the way you think and consume. But what if we all consumed 2% less of all food, oil and energy – we tallied up our daily consumption – small and large business – consumers (you and me) and service providers – schools everyone – tallied up daily consumption by weight and consumed 2% less? What sort of difference would this make?

Oil prices hiking skyward may well be just what we needed to get us to think about consuming less. Already there is consumer backlash in the US as petrol there reaches US$4 a gallon and prices in Australia head towards AUD$2 a liter. May be who ever is leading the surge in oil prices ( and we see that the US Government has ceased stockpiling oil in a network of underground caverns in Louisiana and Texas) that a peak is about to be reached and back down to $20 a barrel the price of crude goes.It is possible!

It’s a hunch but we feel it’s all connected – consume less and less CO2 emissions occur and less carbon falls back onto the planet. This coupled with a willing desire to do something on the home and business front may just be the start to a genuinely Low Planetary Carbon Footprint.

In coming weeks we will explore the concept of ‘Growing at home – Shopping at home’ – is your green grocery bag an LCF bag?  From Community gardens to local farmers markets. Do2 NOW!

Meantime as a small or large business check this site out: www.epa.qld.gov.au/publications?id=1295   you will be surprised how easy it can be started. Go on Do2NOW!!
